What drove you to start your business?
A passion for paper, painting and sharing heartfelt sentiments...designing something that stirs happiness inside another person. A creative outlet from a more structured, corporate day job.
Who are your employees or your artisans?
I am a sole proprietor and design all of the products, have them printed within the USA (some letterpress I print myself on one of two vintage tabletop presses) then package and ship to stores or individuals.
What made you decide to start producing ethically?
I have a deep appreciation for nature and animals - hiking, biking, gardening - raising monarch and eastern black swallowtail butterflies as well as caring for several cats! My product designs reflect my interests and, I started my business off choosing papers and printing processes that are low impact on the environment so that as I grow, I can remain low impact.
What was the most difficult part of starting and running your business?
Doing all creative and day to day business tasks on my own while still keeping a day job...it’s very rewarding but, slower growth.
What has been the most rewarding outcome of your business?
Seeing my products in stores and, finding that there is an appreciation for Tilia Press products being manufactured in the USA and on recycled papers. Also rewarding is the strong interest in my Monarch butterfly products. Monarchs are dear to me and I would love to generate more awareness about the importance of maintaining environments for them.
What is your company’s mission?
To create connections....whether it be connecting yourself to another person with greeting cards, connecting more to yourself with notebooks and journals or, connecting more to nature with our butterfly art.
